Boyfriends and Birthdays

F.I.N.A.L.L.Y.

I have been trying to get this post done for over a week!

Let me start by saying WOW! Just wow. Last week was my birthday and I feel like I can’t even come up with the right words to express how perfect the day was. In general, I don’t get my hopes up or set high expectations for my birthday because the last few years they have been nothing short of awful. On my 25th birthday, the guy I was dating left me a voicemail. Yes, just a voicemail. That was the whole “celebration” and beyond the voicemail there was nothing, I didn’t even see him. On my 24th birthday, I spent it in New York City only to be stood up by my boyfriend at the time. Yep, you read that correctly. I flew all the way to NYC only to have my boyfriend of 10 months not show up. Needless to say, he wasn’t my boyfriend after that day.

So when it comes to boyfriends and birthdays, I keep my expectations pretty low. I knew that Tom would never do to me what past boyfriends had done but still, I didn’t want to expect too much, I wanted to guard myself from being hurt again. That being said it was the best birthday I’ve had in a long time. It was simple but thoughtful, so thoughtful, and so very perfect.

We started the day bright and early, at 7am, when he picked me up for work. He insisted on picking me up, I wasn’t allowed to drive myself. Usually I have trouble getting out of bed in the morning so thinking about getting my day started an entire hour earlier than normal was a hard pill to swallow at first. But I must have been excited because when my alarm went off at 6am I popped right out of bed to start getting ready and I was even ready 10 minutes early!

At 7am sharp he pulled up to my house and got out with the most beautiful flowers for me to keep at my desk at work. It’s been over a week and they are still alive and beautiful as ever at my desk.FullSizeRender

From there he took me to Bread Co (Panera for all you non-St. Louisans) for breakfast where I got my favorite bagel with hazelnut cream cheese and two apple juice boxes. I can’t resist apple juice, it’s my favorite.img_5500

Unfortunately being an adult means sometimes having to work on your birthday so after breakfast we headed to the office. Overall it was a good day, nothing to crazy and time went by pretty fast. I was glad about this because I knew after work we were going to my birthday dinner and I couldn’t wait to find out where. Tom wouldn’t tell me anything, not even when we were in the car on our way there, he was a steal vault and I just had to find out where we were going to eat when we got there. The surprise was well worth the wait because we went to the most beautiful Italian restaurant just a few minutes from our office. It’s a bit of a hidden gem. It’s in a strip mall where you don’t think anything fancy could possibly reside but let me tell you, it was one of the nicest, most romantic meals I’ve ever had. Talk about don’t judge a book by it’s cover! This place was fantastic and the perfect place to have our dinner. They even brought me a delicious chocolate dessert when they heard it was my birthday!img_5504

Of course there was also the part where I got a present! Tom is so adorable, he notices all these things about me that I don’t even know he’s paying attention to. So I guess he noticed that I kept borrowing a small purse from one of my girlfriends every time we go out so he decided that would be a good gift to get me a small purse of my own. So he went above and beyond to get me a Michael Kors cross body bag. He knows all too well my love of Michael Kors and as much as he hates my “other boyfriend, Michael” he knows just the way to make me smile. I’m obsessed with this bag and the card that came with it was even cuter with a special message inside.img_5506

Overall, this birthday showed me what I already knew. That I am appreciated and I am loved and I am maybe just a little very spoiled. I don’t know what I did to deserve this man but you better believe I’m not letting him get away. I have a feeling 26 is going to be my best year yet.
